The Garfield Heights Board of Education held its regular November meeting at Garfield Heights Middle School earlier this week, as part of its effort to rotate meeting locations to various district buildings, to hear an update from its administrators and to remain accessible to the community. Highlights from the meeting included a special presentation from building principal, Chris Hanke, on Value Added, one of the Ohio Department of Education’s criteria for ranking individuals school buildings. In addition, MS guidance counselor, Ms. Jowelle Gray, gave a comprehensive overview of what the building is doing to institute a strong anti-bullying curriculum.
Finally, MS administrators presented several awards to various students for the academic achievement. Five students were recognized as the “Top Eighth Graders” in the entire building, from a total of 300 of their peers. Those students are Jonathan Hopkins, Sierra Dalton, Sandra Boado, Rey Nahine and Megan Kaliszewski. Additionally, three students were recognized as “Most Improved Eighth Graders,” are included brothers Anthony and Aaron Cook and also Shannon Klinkowicz. Congratulations to these students!
